• According to gmw.cn, on April 26 2020, Shanghai Jiao Tong University decided to expel 21 graduate students, most of which are foreign students, which has aroused great public concern.
A Discreet Decision
Per the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, they made the decision after holding a special meeting over the issue where they found all the 21 graduate students have violated the following regulations leading to them being expelled:
The students fail to complete their studies within a certain period of time required by the school (as per the law, the length of schooling is generally two to three years for master students and three years for doctoral students);
They have not resumed their studies after the suspension period;
They have not registered since the 2019’s fall semester.
According to the Graduate School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, as the following students are unable to contact, a notice is hereby sent to them for their decision of dropping out.
The announcement shall be deemed to have been delivered within 10 days from the date of promulgation. Students on the list shall contact the school immediately after receiving the announcement, receive the written decision of dropping out, and go through the procedures of leaving the school as required.
If there is any objection to the school's decision, the students may, within 10 days from the date of service of the announcement, appeal to the school's student appeal handling committee in written form. If they fail to do so, it shall be deemed as a waiver of their rights.
