Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS), Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye

Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has called for a behavioural change following the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in the country.

At a press conference on Tuesday, Dr Kuma-Aboagye indicated that averagely 400 cases are recorded every day and this is attributed to the fact that some Ghanaians are no longer abiding by the safety protocols.

Speaking in an interview on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo' programme, he said if people continue to flout the preventive measures, it will make it difficult to win the fight against the pandemic.

"We can do all the test and put in all the measures but if people don't abide by them, our efforts will be fruitless. We plead that community leaders, chiefs and others should continue educating their follower,"he told Kwami Sefa Kayi in an interview.

Lockdown

Addressing the issue of implementing a lockdown, he said:"a lot of people are not wearing the mask and flouting other protocols and so if we rush to lockdown and people are still not taking precautions; we will come back to square one and we will be going back and forth. Abiding by the safety protocols and being disciplined helps in reducing the case count."
