The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Miss Commonwealth Ghana, Ms Princess Duncan is expected to be arraigned before Court today to face trial for allegedly torturing a contestant in this year’s competition, ABC News can report.

Nana Ama Essien, the victim of the alleged assault, claimed she was allegedly sent to a shrine in the Eastern Region, together with other contestants over allegations that one of them stole GHC500.

“THE A-G’S ADVISE CAME THIS MORNING. THE ACCUSED PERSONS HAVE BEEN FORMALLY CHARGED WITH CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT CRIME, TO WIT TRIAL BY ORDEAL, TRIAL BY ORDEAL, AND ASSAULT.

Princess Duncan and two other alleged accomplices have been slapped with three charges – conspiracy to commit crime, to wit trial by ordeal, trial by ordeal, and assault.

Following a complaint lodged by Nana Ama Essien at the Koforidua Police Station, Princess Duncan and one Isaac Afram, also part of the team and the shrine leader by name Togbe Shitor were all arrested.

The three were however on Police inquiry bail while the matter was referred to the Attorney General’s office for advice.

In an interview with ABC News, the Deputy Eastern Regional Police PRO, Sergeant Francis Gomado said the three were formally charged after it received the A-G’s advice Thursday morning.

He said barring any change in plan, the three will  be arraigned before Court tomorrow.

“The A-G’s advise came this morning. The accused persons have been  formally charged with conspiracy to commit crime, to wit trial by ordeal, trial by ordeal, and assault.

“We will proceed to court tomorrow unless there is a problem or maybe the officer is not around.”

Sergent Gomado indicated that although the accused persons will face trial at a Court within Koforidua, the actual Court was yet to be decided.

“We have three Courts in Koforidua but where they will be sent to will be determined by the Judicial Police Officer,” he said.

Nana Ama, who was a contestant in this year’s Miss Commonwealth Ghana beauty pageant, on October 15, took to Twitter to narrate how she was subjected to torture for what organizers claim was theft of GHc500.

The 24-year-old who emerged as third runner-up at the end of the pageant said she was dragged to a shrine at Kukurantumi near Koforidua in the Eastern region where she was taken through “trial by ordeal”.
