CORONAVIRUS: CONFIRMED CASE IN GHANA RISE TO 27 WITH 2 DEATH

• In respect of contact tracing, a total of 598 contacts have been identified and are being tracked.



A total of 521 suspected cases have been tested for COVID-19 by Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) and Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR).


The Ghana Health Service confirmed the new cases on its website.


Out of the suspected, twenty-seven (27) cases including two (2) deaths have been confirmed. All the twenty-five (25) confirmed cases are receiving treatment in isolation.

Among the confirmed cases, twenty (20) are of Ghanaian nationality, majority of whom returned home from affected countries.


Seven (7) are of other nationals namely: Norway, Lebanon, China, France, UK.


In respect of contact tracing, a total of 598 contacts have been identified and are being tracked.



One (1) of the contacts developed symptoms and has been confirmed positive.


Nineteen (19) people have completed the 14 days of mandatory follow up.


In an interview with Citi News, Mr. Alexander Abban, Deputy Minister of Health said information reaching him through the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service confirmed the deceased is a Lebanese.


It will be recalled that a the deceased a 61 year old Lebanese is among new cases confirmed over the weekend.


As it stands, it is not clear whether his death was a direct result of the virus. The deceased died in Kumasi.


What should I do to keep my spirit up while in self-quarantine?


Being under quarantine can be frightening. The following should be done to reduce anxiety -- Talk to the other members of the family about the COVID-19. Understanding the disease will reduce anxiety. -- Reassure young children using age-appropriate language. -- Think about how you have coped with difficult situations in the past and reassure yourself that you will cope with this situation too. Remember that quarantine won’t last for long. -- Keep in touch with family members and friends via telephone, email or social media. -- Stock plenty of materials to read to keep your mind occupied. -- Exercise regularly from your quarantine area. -- Ensure that you drink at least 8 glasses of water every day to keep hydrated. -- Eat all your meals in a timely manner.
