CORONAVIRUS: CONFIRMED CASES IN GHANA RISE TO 24

Information reaching Wentitrel News confirms two (3) new confirmed cases of the COVID-19.


A total of 315 suspected cases have been tested for COVID-19 by Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) and Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR).

Twenty-four (24) of these have been confirmed at the laboratory as COVID-19. Twenty-three of the confirmed cases are receiving treatment in isolation and one (1) of the cases who had underlying chronic pulmonary condition prior to having COVID-19 has died.

Among the confirmed cases, seventeen (17) are of Ghanaian nationality and seven (7) other nationals namely: Norway, Lebanon, China, France, UK. With regards to contact tracing, a total of 575 contacts have been identified and are being tracked. One (1) of the contacts developed symptoms and has been confirmed positive. All the other twenty-three (23) confirmed cases are being managed in isolation; and are doing well on treatment



What should I do to keep my spirit up while in self-quarantine?


  • Being under quarantine can be frightening. The following should be done to reduce anxiety

  • Talk to the other members of the family about the COVID-19. Understanding the disease will reduce anxiety.

  • Reassure young children using age-appropriate language.

  • Think about how you have coped with difficult situations in the past and reassure yourself that you will cope with this situation too. Remember that quarantine won’t last for long.

  • Keep in touch with family members and friends via telephone, email or social media.

  • Stock plenty of materials to read to keep your mind occupied.

  • Exercise regularly from your quarantine area.

  • Ensure that you drink at least 8 glasses of water every day to keep hydrated.

  • Eat all your meals in a timely manner.


Updates to the nation’s enhanced response to the deadly Coronavirus Pandemic


On Sunday, March 22 to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic, Ghana shut it's boarders by land, sea and air.


President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in addressing the nation said, all our borders, that is by land, sea and air, will be closed to human traffic for the next two weeks, beginning midnight on Sunday.


He assured Ghanaians more personal protection equipment are being procured to beef up supplies for our frontline health workers. Fifty thousand additional test kits have been ordered, and are expected in the country very shortly.


The president also said, the Ministry of Health will not only step up its contact tracing efforts, but will also see to it that all persons who have been identified as having come into contact with infected persons are tested for the virus.


Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appealed to all Ghanaians tio observe Wednesday, 25th March 2020 as a national day of fasting and prayers for God to save the nation from Coronavirus.
