CORONAVIRUS: EGYPT CONFIRMS FIRST CORONAVIRUS CASE

• The World Health Organization (WHO) has been notified Egyptian authorities said the patient has been placed in quarantined isolation in hospital. The patient is a foreign national but the nationality wasn't specified.

• As at 14:50 China Standard Time (CST), Feb, 15th, the death toll from the epidemic virus reached 1,524, Confirmd cases 66,577and recovred cases 8,201.

• Earlier this month, Egypt suspended all flights on its national carrier to China. They will remain grounded until the end of the month.



In a statement by the Health Ministry spokesman Khaled Mugahed on Friday, confirmed its first coronavirus case. The patient did not show any serious symptoms.


IN THE STATEMENT BY THE MINISTRY THE VICTIM HAS BEEN QUARANTINE AND IS A FOREIGN NATIONAL BUT DID NOT REVEAL THE NATIONALITY.

"The ministry is observing preventative measures and is monitoring the patient who's condition is currently stable," health ministry spokesman Khaled Megahed said.

Deep trade links with China and often overstretched healthcare systems have raised concerns about the capacity of African countries to respond to an outbreak.


Earlier this month, Egypt suspended all flights on its national carrier to China. They will remain grounded until the end of the month.


Three hundred and one Egyptians were evacuated from Wuhan, epicentre of the virus in China, and have remained in quarantine for 14 days.
