CORONAVIRUS: SENIOR MINISTER YAW OSAFO MAAFO TEST POSITIVE

Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, Information Minister, confirmed this at a COVID-19 press briefing in Accra on Tuesday morning.

Senior Minister, Mr Yaw Osafo Maafo has tested positive for COVID-19.


At a COVID-19 press briefing in Accra in the early hours of Tuesday, July 7, 2020, Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Information Minister, announced it.

He also added that the disclosure was with the permission of Mr. Yaw Osafo Maafo.


"The decision to publicly disclose the Senior Minister's health status is in consonance with the government's transparency", the Information Minister stated.

He said: "In a separate development that has come to us this morning, Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo has been informed that his sample given for test has been returned positive. He will therefore as of today commence treatment for COVID-19 from home...".

Member of Parliament (MP) for Okere, Mr. Dan Botwe, and the Minister for Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh are all awaiting results of their COVID-19 tests.


The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Lydia Dsane-Selby.


The President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is in his third day of a 14-day precautionary self-isolation measure after a person in his circle tested positive for COVID -19.


In a signed statement  by the Ministry of Information, Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah dated July 4, 2020, said Nana Addo the President tested negative of COVID-19 but has decided to self isolate “out of abundance” of caution.”


The virus has also claimed the lives of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Mr. Anthony Kobina Kurentsir Sam, and the CEO of the Forestry Commission, Mr. Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John.
