Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization has slammed recent comments made by two top French doctors on live TV.
The two doctors had proposed on a life TV that Africa should become a giant laboratory for coronavirus vaccine testing because the continent lacked the resources to defend against COVID-19.
"This hangover from colonial mentality has to stop", and it's a disgrace and appalling to hear in the 20th century doctors make such remarks" the Director-General said.
The WHO director said, he was appalled and it is a time when solidarity is needed the most and this kind of racist remarks will actually not help and it goes against the solidarity.
He further stated, "Africa can not and will not be a testing ground for any vaccine".
WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said proper protocols and the same rules will be followed in testing for any vaccine or therapeutics all over the world be it in Europe, Africa or wherever. If there is any to be tested elsewhere to treat human beings the same rules will be applied equally, he emphasized.

The footage, triggered a deluge of outrage accusing the doctors of white colonial attitudes.
Several of Africa's leading soccer players, including the former Chelsea star Didier Drogba and former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o, also tweeted their anger.
Drogba, who is from Ivory Coast, tweeted: "It is totally inconceivable we keep on cautioning this. Africa isn't a testing lab. I would like to vividly denounce those demeaning, false and most of all deeply racists words."
"Welcome to the West, where white people believe themselves to be so superior that racism and debility become commonplace," tweeted Ba, who is from Senegal. "Time to rise."
Former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o, in his response to Demba Ba on the issue, tweeted "Sons of b****es,"
It is also understood, on of the doctors, Mira has since apologized while Inserm said the comments had been misunderstood.
Inserm, ranked as the world's second-best research institution in the health sector, issued an official statement on Twitter saying the proposal had been "wrongly interpreted" and included the hashtag "#FakeNews."
