UK. Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Health Secretary Matt Hancock tested positive of the deadly COVID-19 while England's Chief Medical Officer, Chris Whitty, is self-isolating at home after developing mild symptoms.

Boris Johnson announced on Friday that he is self-isolating after testing positive for Covid-19, becoming the first high-profile leader to do so.

Boris Johnson in a video posted on his official Twitter page said, he was tested on the advice of England’s chief medical officer after showing “mild symptoms” involving a high temperature and a persistent cough and will now be self-isolating.

The Prime Minister added that he remains in charge of the UK’s response to the coronavirus outbreak. Mr Boris will continue to lead the government via video-conference calls.

UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock also announced he has tested positive for coronavirus and will continue working from home while he self-isolates.

Professor Chris Whitty, England's Chief Medical Officer, on his twitter account said, after experiencing symptoms compatible with COVID-19 last night, in line with the guidance, I will be self-isolating at home for the next seven days.

I will be continuing to advise the Government on the medical response to Coronavirus, supported by my deputies.

Early this week the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles tested positive for the virus the BBC reported.

According to the BBC, Prince Charles, 71, displayed mild symptoms "but otherwise remains in good health", a spokesman said, adding that the Duchess of Cornwall, 72, has been tested but does not have the virus.

Charles and Camilla are now self-isolating at Balmoral.

Buckingham Palace said the Queen last saw her son, the heir to the throne, on 12 March, but was "in good health".

It is understood pregnant Carrie is now isolating from her future husband, and is at their Camberwell home after leaving NO. 11 a few days ago.

Just last night, the 32-year-old confirmed she was self-isolating amid the pandemic.

Sharing a photo of her with the couple's dog Dilyn, she wrote: "Self-isolating isn't so bad with this one".
