‘DON’T MAKE MOCKERY OF FRAFRAS!

• “Frafras do not in any custom demand dog(s) as dowry for marriage.  It is

only in rare cases!”

• For instance, where a family has a god then that god could demand a dog in addition to the other dowries,” she explained.

• Frafra marriage, she indicated, is unique among many Ghanaian cultures.

CHIEFTAINCY AND CULTURE MINISTER, HON. KOFI DZAMESI

A former reporter of Today newspaper, Millicent Yaro, is miffed at the conduct of Okay FM morning show Host, Kwame Nkrumah Tikesi, on the issue of Frafra dowry list.

According to Ms Yaro (who is a Frafra), it was demeaning for the host of Okay FM morning show to have suggested that one of the items on the dowry list of Frafras is the demand for dog(s).

MS YARO WAS SPEAKING TO WEEKEND TODAY IN REACTION TO WHAT SHE DESCRIBED AS VERY INSULTING COMMENTS BY KWAME NKRUMAH TIKESI ON HIS PROGRAMME ON TUESDAY, 29 OCTOBER, 2019 ABOUT FRAFRA CULTURE AND MARRIAGE.

She made it clear that it was not true that Frafras request for dog(s) when allowing the daughter to get married.

Ms Yaro was speaking to Weekend Today in reaction to what she described as very insulting comments by Kwame Nkrumah Tikesi on his programme on Tuesday, 29 October, 2019 about Frafra culture and marriage.

The former Today reporter was not only disappointed but devastated to have heard Tikesi talk in the manner that was so ‘malicious and denigrating’ to Frafras Ghana.

“Frafras do not in any custom demand dog(s) as dowry for marriage.  It is

only in rare cases!” For instance, where a family has a god then that god could demand a dog in addition to the other dowries,” she explained.

In the view of Ms Yaro, it was so cynical for Kwame Nkrumah Tikesi to have used that as a basis to make mockery of Frafras.

Frafra marriage, she indicated, is unique among many Ghanaian cultures.

Continuing, she asked: “What is the use of journalism if it is not to educate, inform and entertain?”

“An experienced Journalist like Kwame Nkrumah Tikesi should have known better instead of using his platform to make fun of the people of Frafra!,” she averred.

In the wake of the above, Ms Yaro asked Kwame Nkrumah Tikesi to use his platform to correct the wrong picture he painted about the people of Frafra.
