According to sources, Alfred Kotey's demise occurred on Jun 30, 2020, in the Bronx, New York City.
Unconfirmed reports indicate, the former boxer was unwell and has been battling ill health for months now and was on life support until his demise.
As an amateur, he represented Ghana at the 1988 Summer Olympics which was held in Seoul, South Korea, from September 17th to October 2nd.
By unanimous decision, Alfred "Cobra" Kotey won the WBO bantamweight World title against the Puerto Rican Rafael Del Valle, July 30th, 1994 at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London, United Kingdom.
He had too much of everything for Del Valle, fighting through the rhythm of tribal drums from his fellow countrymen in the crowd.

In taking the title, Kotey (115¾), scored a solid knockdown in round two. He made all the running against the better boxing of Del Valle (118). It was all about skill versus power and aggression, the judges siding with the latter after being impressed by his forward march.

The World Boxing Organization in a tweet paid tribute to the boxer, "the WBO family is deeply saddened by the passing of the great Alfred Kotey, the organization's first World Champion from Ghana. Kotey defeated Rafael Del Valle to win the Bantam crown on July 30th, 1994. May he rest in peace".
In total, he fought a total of 43 fights with 26 wins, 16 losses and 1 draw. By knockout, he won KO 17.
