President of Ghana Football Association, Kurt E.S. Okraku has named Asamoah Gyan and Abedi ‘Pele’ Ayew as his two favourite Ghanaian footballers of all-time.
The FA chief refused to weigh in on the ongoing debate about Ghana’s best XI in history but insists Gyan and Abedi are the two players who have captured his imagination the most.
“I will just give you two names who in my opinion (that I saw playing) have been fantastic,” Kurt Okraku said during an interview with GhanaWeb’s Sports Check “One is the general captain of the Black Stars the Baby Jet (Asamoah Gyan) and the other one; the only one, the Maestro (Abedi Pele).
Gyan is the all-time leading goalscorer of the Black Stars with 51 goals and is one of the longest-serving players after making his debut in 2003 against Somalia in a World Cup qualifier.
Meanwhile, Ayew made his name in France after guiding Olympique Marseille to UEFA Champions League glory in 1993, and went on to win that year’s African Footballer of the year award.
The 55-year old was three times African Footballer of the Year and also won the Nations Cup with the Black Stars of Ghana in 1982, as a teenager.
