The government of Ghana has given the greenlight for its citizens in Hubei Province, the epicenter of the current 2019-CoV, popularly called the Wuhan Corona Virus to be evacuated.
The announcement was given by Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare, Director General of the Ghana Health Service and government representative to the embassy in China for the ongoing pandemic during a meeting with presidents of the various Ghanaian communities in China and the Ghana Embassy in China. The meeting was held during the late hours of Tuesday, 4th February, 2019 and run till the early hours of the following morning.

'Due to panic amongst parents and guardians back home, names of all Ghanaians living in the epicenter has been collected and plans are underway to organize a flight for them, with a 2 week quarantine period during which checks will be done to ensure each traveler is safe and provide further medical attention to those who may exhibit signs of infection during the said period.’ Dr. Asare explined.
His assertion was corroborated by H.E. Edward Akwasi Boateng, Ghana’s ambassador to China. Mr. E.A. Boateng explained further that this move had become necessary despite earlier calls by some health professionals against it.
‘The hysteria, mistrust, misinformation from the Ghanaian media, peer pressure, possible psychological trauma and evacuation examples of other nations necessitated this move,’ he said.

‘Nuguqi has a high tech level 3 lab that is capable of testing and identifying the Corona Virus, should any arriving passenger exhibit signs of the infection.’ the learned practioner added.
Mr. Abu Osuman, an official from the embassy, confirmed that the promised 20,000 RMB to the Ghana Communities is ready. He directed that the said amount was to be used to purchase nose masks and hand sanitizers and distributed to all communities, with immediate dispatchment to the heavily hit cities and provinces.
A group of Ghanaian professionals led by Mr. Nana Kofi Owusu who were not members of any of the Ghanaian Communities were advised to join the Community closest to them or come together and start one if none is in convenient proximity, and submit their leaders to the National Executives Council so they could be well catered for through any assistance that may come from the government/embassy.
In his closing remarks, Mr. E.A. Boateng expressed his utmost satisfaction that no countryman has been struck by this infection despite the number of reported cases running into tens of thousands.
He concluded by charging the executives to make judicious use of whatever package that comes to them, which is meant at managing the situation, and hammered home the point made that the 20,000 RMB is strictly meant for the procurement of nose masks and hand sanitizers, and no amount should be left for future assignments.
