• Third confirmed case in Africa after Egypt and Algeria and first in Sub-Saharan Africa
The Federal Ministry of Health on Friday announced the first confirmed case of the novel coronavirus.
This makes it the third confirmed case in Africa after Egypt and Algeria
The patient is an Italian national who works and resides in Nigeria who had returned from Milan to Lagos on 25th February, the minister health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire stated on the ministry's Twitter account.
Last weekend on the 22nd Feb, The World Health Organization (WHO) addressed AU and Africa on CDC Emergency.
WHO’s Director-General and Regional Director for Africa addressed an emergency meeting of ministers of health to agree on a continental strategy for Africa to strengthen preparedness and responses to the COVID-19 outbreak.
The WHO also said during the past month about 11 000 African health workers have been trained using WHO’s online courses on COVID-19, which are available free of charge in English, French & other languages.
