PARLIAMENT ELECTS ALBAN BAGBIN AS NEW SPEAKER OF THE 8TH PARLIAMENT

The results suggest that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) side of the house beat the New Patriotic Party (NPP) side with two votes to put Mr. Bagbin ahead of the former speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye.

The Clerk of Parliament has confirmed that Alban Sumana Kinsford Bagbin has been elected Speaker of the 8th Parliament.


The Former Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli Kaleo and former second deputy speaker of the 7th Parliament won with 138 votes according to reports received from Peace FM's Parliamentary correspondent, Emmanuel Akorli.

The results suggest that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) side of the house beat the New Patriotic Party (NPP) side with two votes to put Mr. Bagbin ahead of the former speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye.


The election process started moments after 12:00am January 7 and ran through the night to about 6:00 am amidst chaos and confusion.
